We’re seeking 28 volunteers to help support activity stations, guide event flow, and assist with setup and breakdown throughout the day.

How businesses can participate:

  • Volunteer as a team

  • Support an activity station through hands-on help

  • Combine volunteer time with donated materials or services

Volunteer roles include table support, event flow assistance, setup, and breakdown shifts. We’re happy to collaborate with businesses to create team-based volunteer opportunities that feel meaningful and aligned. Please contact me so we can create a collaboration that feels authentic and impactful for your team.

We’re happy to provide outreach and marketing materials for break rooms or staff spaces to help make team participation easy.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Earth Day is a chance to slow down and learn together. This event is designed with children at the center — hands in soil, curiosity encouraged, and simple lessons that help young gardeners understand how plants grow, where materials come from, and how small choices can care for the earth.

Parents and caregivers are invited to learn alongside their kids, or simply hold space while they explore.

  • Hosted by the Fortuna Plant Swap. Bring plants, cuttings, seeds, or pots to share — or come just to participate. Swapping is informal and welcoming, with guidance available to help kids choose plants they can succeed with at home.

  • Child-focused activities that make plant care and sustainability tangible:

    • Planting + Seed Starting

    • Composting Basics

    • Low-waste Gardening Basics

    • And More!

    Everything is designed to be simple, age-appropriate, and curiosity-led.

  • Creative stations using reclaimed and everyday materials:

    • Compostable pot demo

    • Make a self watering planter

    • Reuse ideas that show how “waste” can become useful again

    These activities are intentionally low-mess, low-pressure, and open-ended.

  • A quiet, reflective station where children are invited to write or draw a promise to care for the earth — whether it’s watering a plant, reducing waste, or protecting living things.

    Promises will be displayed during the event as a shared reminder of the future we’re growing together.

HOW THE DAY UNFOLDS

Step 1 —

Arrive + Explore

Families are welcomed into a relaxed, open environment where children can move freely between activities and discover at their own pace.

Step 2 —

Learn by Doing

Hands-on stations invite kids to plant, touch soil, ask questions, and learn how plants grow — no lectures, just experience.

Step 3 —

Create + Reflect

Low-waste crafts and reuse projects encourage creativity while reinforcing care for the earth.

Step 4 —

Promise for the Future

Children are invited to write or draw a promise to care for the earth — planting a seed of intention they can carry forward.

WHY THIS DAY MATTERS

Earth Day isn’t just about plants — it’s about stewardship, curiosity, and the next generation learning that their actions matter. When children are given space to connect with the earth in simple, tangible ways, care becomes instinctual.

This gathering is about planting more than seeds. It’s about planting responsibility, confidence, and hope.
